Berlin Schoenefeld will be the main airport in Berlin when its major renovations are complete in early June 2012.. Berlin International Airport in Tegel will close, and Berlin Brandenberg International (BBI), is the second airport. From Berlin-Schoenefeld International Airport - SXF Schönefeld (SXF) Schönefeld is situated approximately 18 km south-east of the city centre. This is the old East Berlin Airport where most Charter Flight companies fly to. The easier way to get into town is by Airport Express which will get you to the Ku'damm in around 30 minutes. Otherwise take the 171 bus to Rudow U-Bahn station and get to the Zoo by U7 (Underground Line 7) or to to S-Bahn (surface rail) where you can travel by S9 to Alexanderplatz. The new Berlin Brandenburg International Airport BER will be opening on 3rd June 2012, and for this purpose Lufthansa will be expanding its major hub in Berlin. The airline connects Berlin with 30 new destinations, including completely new direct routes to Birmingham, Manchester and Geneva. airBerlin is also moving from its previous base to the new BER airport. In addition to the scheduled services, the low-cost airlines Easyjet, germanwings and Ryanair will also be flying from and to the new airport.
